Director Jody Lambert in attendance.
Unassuming Boca Raton real estate agent Dennis Lambert is just a regular guy who likes spending time with his family and shopping at the mall. He also has a past of which most of his clients are unaware: he happens to have written some of the biggest pop hits of the ’60s and ’70s, including “Baby Come Back,” “Ain’t No Woman (Like the One I Got),” and “Rhinestone Cowboy.” At the height of his career, Dennis wrote and recorded his own album, which went nowhere in the U.S., but––he finds out years later––became an enormous sensation in the Philippines. A Filipino concert promoter tracks him down to arrange an overseas concert tour. But is Dennis ready to face his fan base 30 years after he retired his electric piano?
Directed by Dennis’s son, Jody, OF ALL THE THINGS is a warm and personal film that draws the viewer fully into a tale of unexpected and belated recognition. Believing songwriting to be firmly in the past, Dennis stalls for years before agreeing to do the tour that is already so long deferred. To gain the courage to face the stage, Dennis must relearn the songs he thought no one had listened to and get to know the fans he never knew he had. For the viewer, the result is a funny, touching, and uplifting story about an ordinary person’s struggle to believe in himself and in his creativity, as well as to come to terms with the path on which he finds himself.
