I Live In The Woods
Max Winston 2008
Categories: Short Film
Run time: 4 min. | USA | Film Format: 35mm
The purple-haired protagonist declares his dominion in the first line of Max Winston’s stop-motion short. This forest foray is barely bucolic: reminiscent of the 80s/90s Green Jellÿ gore-Claymation music videos, I LIVE IN THE WOODS features the maniacal woodsman’s delirious distichs describing his arboreal world, its creatures, and god. Though utterly comical, the final treatment of American deism has a particular resonance beyond the absurd violence of the film. It’s notable that most of the stop-motion segments were filmed outdoors, a nearly impossible approach due to the art form’s precise process.

Really interesting animation style, I liked the look a lot, but the set up seemed to have no relevence to the peice and there didn't seem to be any point or purpose to any of it. The connection between God and this character could have been discussed perhaps if this peice had a cohesive middle.
